Metal
spinning is more like an art than a science. Spinning is the process
of forming metal into desired round shapes. The mold used is called
a chuck and is the inside shape of the part to be made. The chuck
is attached to a lathe that is turning anywhere from 500 to 3500
rpm.
A round disk of metal is clamped against the chuck in a centered
position. One of two types of tools is used to form the metal against
the chuck. The metal flows back and forth under the
control of
the metal spinner, similar to clay being formed on a potter's wheel.
